Command-LogiX is designed to provide travelling time and distance
information to other computer programs in the most straightforward
manner possible. It is a companion to the more comprehensive
Batch Route Planning System (Route-LogiX Toolbox) which provides
a full route-finding service.
In its simplest form, Command-LogiX reads an ASCII
text file (in a specific format) which contains two or more
call points and outputs a new file giving the time and distance
taken to travel the whole journey. Place names can be entered
as:
Postcode or Zipcode.
Latitude/Longitude co-ordinate.
Ordnance Survey Grid Reference (valid only in the UK).
Non-ambiguous place name.
This last option needs a little further explanation. Command-LogiX
will recognise a valid Postcode or numeric co-ordinate.
Any other entry will be checked against the extensive internal
Gazetteer in an attempt to determine its location. Place
names that occur more than once in a database need to be
reinforced by the appropriate county or region name. As
an example, the name 'Leeds' appears more than once in the
British database, so using this name by itself would not
be sufficient for a unique location. However 'Leeds, West
Yorkshire' renders the address unambiguous. The routine
is fairly intelligent, and would also recognise 'W.Yorkshire'
and 'Yorks' as valid county names.
